Two vehicles collide on Pelletier Island road

ST. AGATHA – Two vehicles collided Sunday on Pelletier Island on Long Lake, sending two people to the hospital for treatment, according to the Maine State Police.

Maurice Dube, 50, of Frenchville was driving a 1994 Toyota pickup truck southwest on Island Road when he met another vehicle, a 1996 Dodge van driven by Ann LaPlante, 48, of Madawaska, police said.

Because of slippery road conditions and the curve in the road, the two vehicles were not able to avoid each other, according to Trooper Tim Saucier.

Dube’s wife, Diane Dube, 47, was a passenger in her husband’s vehicle. Both she and LaPlante were taken to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent where they were treated for injuries, according to Saucier.

Damage to Dube’s vehicle was estimated at $3,500 and to LaPlante’s van at $4,000.
