HOULTON – A local youth has been charged with multiple offenses in connection with a burglary late Tuesday night at a home on Garrison Road.
As a result of the investigation into the incident, the owner of the home that was burglarized also has been charged.
Staff Sgt.-Detective James Skehan of the Houlton Police Department said the 15-year-old boy broke into the home of Inez McLean, age unavailable, after she left to play bingo. When McLean returned about 11 p.m., she discovered the burglary and called police.
Officers Shawn Smith and Steve Wotton responded and used a town-owned snowmobile to track the youth back to his home about 11/2 miles away.
The boy was arrested less than an hour after the burglary was reported, and subsequently was charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief and possession of marijuana.
He told police he stole the marijuana from McLean’s residence.
Policed returned to McLean’s home Wednesday with a search warrant. As a result of that search, Skehan said McLean was charged with a civil violation for possession of marijuana.
