Maine native involved in Chicago shooting dies

CHICAGO – A Maine native who suffered multiple gunshot wounds in a shootout at Chicago’s Union Station has died of his injuries, authorities report.

Daniel Wentworth, 26, who had moved from Wells, Maine, to the Phoenix area, was pronounced dead Sunday at Cook County Hospital, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.

Wentworth had been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery in the Dec. 12 shootout that slightly injured one Chicago police officer and killed Wentworth’s alleged accomplice, Andrew Ross, also from Wells.

Authorities said earlier this month that the two had been members of a Phoenix-based drug and robbery ring. Members of the gang fashioned themselves into a heavily armed, robbery crew, said Special Agent Tom Mangan of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
