Nichols sparks Ponies Foxcroft notches eighth victory

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Holli Nichols scored 17 second-half points as Foxcroft Academy outscored Ellsworth 27-14, including a 16-5 fourth-quarter margin, to post a 44-29 schoolgirl basketball win over the Ellsworth Eagles Tuesday night.

Nichols finished with a game-high 23 points; Leslie Glover scored 10 and Amy Kelley chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds. Dana Frasz also had eight boards.

Meghan Page’s 13 points led Ellsworth.

At Belfast, Angela Berube scored a game-high 21 points as the Oak Hill Raiders of Sabattus got off to a quick start and held the Lions off.

The Raiders took a 17-4 lead in the first quarter as Belfast was 2-for-11 from the field. Oak Hill also took advantage on the line, hitting 19 of 29 to Belfast’s seven made.

Kait Murphy led the Lions with 11 points.

MDI’s desperation shot at the buzzer from beyond half-court fell short.

Marquez finished with a game-high 22 points, including nine of her team’s 13 in the fourth quarter. Jessica Wagner added 12 points.

Shelley Gott topped the Trojans with 15 points, including four 3-pointers. Bracey Barker had nine.

Jenny Sheedy’s 18 points and Sheena Foote’s seven represented all of Baxter’s points.

The Crusaders got off to a quick start, but shot 6-for-14 from the line in the fourth quarter before holding off the Warriors.

Zev Myerowitz chipped in with 16 points and seven boards while Bryan Snyder cracked double digits in scoring for the first time with 10 points. Doug Russell finished with 10 rebounds and four blocks.
