MOUNT DESERT – Sarah Marquez nailed three free throws with 2.2 seconds remaining to lift the Orono Red Riots to a 45-43 schoolgirl basketball victory over the Mount Desert Island Trojans Tuesday night.
Marquez was fouled on a 3-point attempt and then sank the free throws.
MDI’s desperation shot at the buzzer from beyond half-court fell short.
Marquez finished with a game-high 22 points, including nine of her team’s 13 in the fourth quarter. Jessica Wagner added 12 points.
Shelley Gott topped the Trojans with 15 points, including four 3-pointers. Bracey Barker had nine.
