ORRINGTON – The first “Turn of the Century” Currier & Ives Sleigh Rally sponsored by the Curran Homestead will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Curran Homestead, a living history farm on the Fields Pond Road in Orrington.

The rally is being organized by a local group of sleigh enthusiasts who will organize competitive events in various classes. There is no admission fee.

Among the classes typically scheduled for such an event are: appointments (unhitched); parade of sleighs; pony (pair or single); horse (pair or single); draft (pair or single); juniors; reinsmanship (horse or pony); reinsmanship (draft); obstacles; and Currier & Ives. Ribbons will be awarded in each class.

Betty Hauger will serve as pleasure judge and Brian Higgins as authenticity judge. Entries are being coordinated by Paula Leavitt, P.O. Box 36, Dixmont 04932.

Also, the Curran Homestead annual spring event, which features maple-sugaring demonstrations, sleigh rides and tours, is planned for Sunday, March 11.
