Fletcher, Lancaster help lead Husson men past St. Joseph’s

STANDISH – The Husson College Braves defeated the St. Joseph’s College Monks 67-61 to earn a Maine Athletic Conference basketball victory Thursday night.

The Monks outrebounded the Braves 46-29 but couldn’t overcome Husson’s scoring balance.

Randy Fletcher led Husson with 18 points. Quinson Lancaster of Fairfield tossed in 15 and Robert Pilsbury of Portland added 14.

C.J. Vose topped all scorers with 19 points and hauled down 12 rebounds for St. Joseph’s and Leroy Gore scored 16 points.

At Standish, Stacey Gelinas’ game-high 22 points helped power the Monks past the Braves of Bangor.

Carolyn Brown notched 21 for St. Joe’s. Cassie Turcotte added 14, and Sue Picard and Abbie Rice had 11 and 10 points each, respectively.

Leslie Trott of Husson led all scorers with 25 points. Katie Nye popped in 15, Liza Doughty added 13, and Liz Boone went 7 for 8 from the foul line, totaling nine points. She also had a pair of steals.

At Lyndonville, Vt., the University of Maine-Farmington used a balanced scoring attack to notch the win.

Megan Woodcock scored 18 points for the winners, Jocelyn Sawyer netted 16, Becky Roak added 14 and Kelly Hartman put in 13.

Jen Garcia scored 15 for Lyndon State.

At Castine, the Terriers connected on 12 3-point baskets en route to the win over the Mariners.

Kati Morrell had five 3’s and totalled 23 points to lead Thomas. Erin Lovely had four three-pointers among her 19 points and Heather Farrell found the mark for three three-pointers in her 15 point night.

Janey Lesiewicz scored 18 points as Maine Maritime Academy had four players score in double figures. Stacy Ryan had 16 while Monica Locke recorded 12 points and Rachel Merrill added 10.
