Youth theater troupe presents a classic

HERMON – The Morgan Hill Performing Arts Youth Theater will present “Alice in Wonderland” at 7 p.m. Friday at the Hermon High School Auditorium.

Fifteen youngsters in grades 3-8, from Hermon, Hampden, Bangor, Brewer and Levant, will sing, dance and, for one night, become some of the well-known characters from Lewis Carroll’s famous children’s book.

“Some of the children will be performing for the first time, and some have already performed in youth theater,” said Morita Tapley, director of the Morgan Hill Performing Arts Youth Theater.

Several of the youngsters will be doing some quick-change artistry backstage, Tapley said, as they will perform the roles of more than one character.

Most of the familiar characters in Carroll’s book will be represented, including the Rabbit, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, the Cheshire Cat, Alice, the Mock Turtle, the Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter. There will be two singing numbers made up of an ensemble of performers, and two dancing numbers, which will include all of the performers.

The 11/2-hour production is directed by Tom Logan of Veazie, a school guidance counselor. Logan has been active for years in theater production, Tapley said, and is well known in the area.

Tickets are available at the door. For more information, contact Morita Tapley at 848-5083.
