BREWER – A blown fuse on Route 9 plunged residents along North Main Street, Lambert Road and Day Road into darkness for nearly a half-hour into the Super Bowl on Sunday night.

Crews from Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. restored power by halftime, when the Baltimore Ravens led the New York Giants 10-3.

The power went out about 6:50 p.m. and was back on at 7:45 p.m., according to Robert Toole, an outage coordinator at Bangor Hydro.

Toole said he received about 20 calls from area residents, each of whom he described as polite. He said it was not the first time Bangor Hydro customers have lost power during the football championship game.

“A couple of years ago, a circuit blew in Veazie during the Super Bowl,” he said after power was restored.

“People have not always been as polite as they were tonight.”
