HOULTON – Two people were taken to the hospital Monday with injuries they suffered in a car crash on North Street.
Deanna Williams, 34, of Patten and Alphonse Lavoie, 82, of Houlton were taken by the Houlton Ambulance for treatment of minor injuries at Houlton Regional Hospital.
According to Cpl. Terry Beaton of the Houlton Police Department, Williams was driving north at 1:25 p.m. when Lavoie suddenly pulled out in front of her from the Rite Aid parking lot.
Lavoie’s wife and daughter, who were riding with him, were not injured.
All five people were wearing seat belts, Beaton said, and the air bags in Williams’ car deployed on impact.
Beaton estimated damage to Williams’ 1998 Buick at about $6,500 and $7,500 to Lavoie’s 1996 Ford. Both vehicles would probably be considered demolished, he said.
The cause of the accident has been attributed to driver inattention on the part of Lavoie, Beaton said.
