I have been a registered Republican since the age of 18. I have been disgusted with the party ever since. President Bush and the Republican Party are now pushing for a $1.3 trillion tax cut. I fully support a tax cut, but the Republicans are erring in their reasoning.
This country is on the brink of another recession, which Alan Greenspan has confirmed. An unbiased third party has looked at the Republicans’ tax plan and it will benefit the rich and upper middle class the most. A family of four making less than $25,000 will receive pennies and that is with the assumption that they will get something at all.
There is a huge problem with this. Recessions generally bring higher unemployment because companies downsize in an effort to increase profits. These newly unemployed people frequently have to take lesser-paying jobs to support their families because they cannot find anyone who will hire them due to the recession.
Republicans argue that cutting taxes for the privileged will increase spending by them and stimulate the economy. Again, this is erred reasoning. People tend to save in recessions because of the fear of the unknown. Companies do the same thing; they do not increase jobs and spending unless they are sure they can maintain their profits. Because of this flawed ideology, I am going to switch my allegiance to the Democratic Party.
