A day of free fishing and free instruction in ice fishing for children will be presented Sunday by the Deparment of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife at Jackson Beach Park on Hermon Pond in Hermon. The entrance is within 200 yards of Hermon Mountain Ski Area.
This is not a derby. The event will focus on teaching elementary age children. All ice fishing equipment, including bait, will be provided for each child at no cost, donated by local businesses. Volunteers will be available to assist children and adults. Catch-and-release practices are encouraged.
The event coincides with the Maine DIFW’s free fishing days. This means anyone, young or old, can fish without purchasing a Maine fishing license.
