Husson to battle vs. Dominican today

BANGOR – The Husson College men’s basketball team will try to extend its seven-game winning streak today with a non-conference showdown against nationally ranked Dominican College of New York.

The Braves are the No. 20 team in the latest National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics poll, while Dominican is riding a 10-game win streak and enters with a 17-5 mark and the nation’s No. 28 ranking. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Husson’s Newman Gymnasium.

Husson has compiled a 16-4 record (9-1 against Maine Athletic Conference foes).

The game will present an interesting clash between the nation’s sixth-leading scorer, Husson sophomore Robert Pilsbury (24.2 points per game) and a Dominican defense that ranks third in the country at 63.6 points per game.

At Alfond Arena in Orono, Valerie Hall scored both goals and Tania Pinelli stopped 24 shots as the Purple Eagles recorded the shutout.

Hall scored once in the second period and again in the third for 15-11-3 Niagara, which is 7-9-3 in ECAC play.

Amanda Cronin of York came up with 30 saves for Maine (10-12-1, 5-11-1). It was the first time the Bears had been shut out since Dec. 2.
