Amero powers UMPI to victory Owls beat Thomas for 13th win

PRESQUE ISLE – Megan Amero scored 15 points to help lead the University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls to a 71-61 women’s basketball victory over the Thomas College Terriers Saturday.

Rachel Underwood and Rachel Larlee each netted 12 points for the Owls and Erica McGary put in 11.

Heather Farrell notched 20 points for the Terriers of Waterville while Erin Lovely poured in 17.

At Brunswick, freshman Carli Parlsella scored a game-high 16 points to go with four steals Saturday to help the White Mules of Waterville move into a first-place tie with Bowdoin in the NESCAC.

Jen Hallee helped the cause with an 11-point effort. Bianca Belcher of Lewiston chipped in 10.

Colby held a whopping 36-20 advantage in the paint while scoring 21 points of 27 Bowdoin turnovers. Kristina Fugate led the Polar Bears with 14 points, nine of which came on free throws, while Kristi Royer of Lewiston added 13.
