Pilsbury powers Husson to win Braves improve record to 17-4

BANGOR – Robert Pilsbury netted 26 points to lead Husson by Dominican 88-80 in a men’s basketball battle between two of the nation’s top NAIA squads Saturday at Newman Gym.

Husson is ranked No. 20 while Dominican (N.Y.) is No. 28.

Matt Breen added 16 points and 15 rebounds for Husson. Randy Fletcher pitched in with 13 points.

Jon Fitzsimmons scored 19 while Gamar Snider added 12 and Gerald Allen netted 11 for Dominican. Joe Roggencamp notched 10.

Geoff Grigsby popped in 12 for the winners. St. Pierre hit his consecutive 3-pointers to erase the deficit, and the Huskies never looked back.

At Alfond Arena in Orono Saturday, Meagan Aarts scored three goals – her first collegiate hat trick – to pace the Black Bears past the Purple Eagles.

Kelly Nelson added a goal for the Bears while Andrea Keller notched three assists for the Bears, who improve to 15-12-3, 7-10-3 in ECAC play. Tracy Caridade, Karen Droog and Jamie Hill added assists. Dawn Froats made 33 saves on 36 shots.

Tania Pinelli made 15 saves on 19 shots.

At Machias Saturday, Betsy Elmer notched 22 points to go with seven assists to lead the UMaine-Machias Clippers to victory.

It was UMM’s first victory over the University of Maine-Farmington since the Clippers joined the Maine Athletic Conference in 1992.
