Joshua McAuliffe of the Bangor Police Athletic League boxing team won the heavyweight championship at the Northern New England Golden Gloves last Saturday in Burlington, Vt.
McAuliffe won an unanimous 5-0 decision over Eric Shanks of Winooski, Vt. McAuliffe dominated the match, twice causing the referee to issue standing eight counts to his opponent.
Chris Lane of the Bangor PAL reached the semifinals of the 147 pound division. Lane will next compete in the New England Silver Mittens, a competition for 10-16 year old boxers, in Lowell, Mass., in March.
