WINSLOW – Jay O’Connell scored nine points to spark No. 9 Houlton’s 27-14 third-quarter scoring surge that carried the Shiretowners to a 75-52 Eastern Maine Class B preliminary second-round basketball victory over No. 8 Winslow Tuesday night.

O’Connell finished with 24 points for the winners. Peter Bates added 21 points and Joe Fitzpatrick put in 10.

Pat Dempsey paced the Black Raiders with 20 points and Mike Hughes put in 13.

Steven Knapp led a balanced effort for No. 11 Narraguagus of Harrington with 15 points. Jason Snider netted 13, Luke Shaw provided 12 and Brandon Emerson -added 11.

David Chrisos had 17 points for the winners and Pat McCleary chipped in 13 more.

Ryan Lamoreau led four Bears in double figures with 18 points. Jeff Blackstone, Andrew Perry and Matt Osgood had 16, 15 and 13 respectively and Osgood also had 12 rebounds.

Marcel Chalou dished out six assists.
