WASHINGTON – Sen. Susan Collins has been named to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council. The council was established by Congress to serve as the board of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum to oversee fulfillment of the institution’s three mandates of remembrance, education and conscience. Collins was named to the council by Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott.
“The Holocaust museum is an extraordinary repository of facts and artifacts from one of humankind’s darkest hours,” Collins said. “It is important that the museum remains a leading resource for generations to come to understand the Holocaust, how it was allowed to happen, and that it must never happen again. I look forward to my service on the Holocaust Memorial Council.”
