FORT KENT – For the next four Saturdays, Feb. 17 through March 10, Northern Maine Medical Center will be the training site for volunteers who are interested in providing support and crisis intervention, along with education and information to victims of sexual assault, harassment or abuse.

Sexual assault advocate training is provided by Aroostook Mental Health Center, and involves a 40-hour commitment on the part of the volunteer.

Once training is complete, the sexual assault advocate will provide telephone support to victims from the advocate’s home, accompany victims to the hospital and provide support in court to victims who choose to seek legal recourse.

The free training sessions will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Instructors will include local professionals from mental health, legal, medical and law enforcement fields.

For more information or to register, call AMHC at 1-800-432-7805.
