Organic gardens focus of statewide workshops

UNITY – The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association will sponsor a statewide educational event, “Growing Your Own Organic Garden,” from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at 10 locations. The workshops are open to the public.

This new workshop is designed to provide gardeners with the essential skills and knowledge needed to make a transition to organic gardening. The presenters are seasoned MOFGA farmers and gardeners from around the state.

The workshops will be held at the following sites:

. Bangor – Bangor Public Library, 145 Harlow St.;

. Bath – Winter Street Center, 880 Washington St.;

. Belfast – University of Maine’s Hutchinson Center;

. Bridgton – Bridgton Municipal Complex, One Chase Common;

. Camden – Camden Hills Regional High School;

. Ellsworth – Ellsworth Public Library, State Street;

. Lisbon Falls – Androscoggin-Sagadahoc counties Extension office, call (800) 924-7508 for directions;

. Portland – Friends Meeting House, 837 Forest Ave.;

. Sanford – Goodall Hall, Unitarian church, Routes 202 and 109;

. Sherman Station – Katahdin High School.

For more information or to preregister, call the MOFGA office at 568-4142. A $5 registration fee will be collected at the door to cover materials.

Correction: A story on Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association workshops that appeared in Thursday’s MaineDay did not specify a date for classes and led some people to believe workshops would be held this Thursday. The correct date is Thursday, March 15.
