BIDDEFORD – Sarah Leong of Hampden Academy won each of the four individual events Saturday on her way to the All-Around title at the state gymnastics championship meet held at Biddeford High School.
Leong, a junior who trains with the Old Town team because her school does not sponsor the sport, scored 36.50 points to beat out runner-up Maria Goss of Noble High in Berwick, who finished with 34.0. York’s Gracie Blum was third with 33.4 and Bernadette Cangelosi of Dexter placed fourth with 32.85.
Kennebunk edged Skowhegan 150-144.225 for the team title, while Leavitt of Turner Center took third 141.95. Mountain Valley of Rumford (136.65) and Noble (135.65) rounded out the top five.
Ryan Chandler of Noble took the boys All-Around competition with 34.75 and Jason Fleming of Waterville was second with 31.525.
In the girls meet, Leong earned top honors after finishing as the individual runner-up in each of the last two years. She won her favorite event, the floor exercise, with a score of 9.55, and took first place in the uneven parallel bars (9.0), vault (8.95) and balance beam (9.0).
Goss placed second in the floor, beam and bars, while Blum was second in the vault. Cangelosi wound up tied for third in the vault and was third in the beam and fourth in the floor exercise.
