UMaine wins 2 weekend games Bears knock off 4th-ranked Saints

ITHACA, N.Y. – Meagan Arts scored the eventual game-winner in the second period Sunday to help the University of Maine complete a sweep of their women’s hockey road trip with a 2-1 ECAC victory over Cornell.

The Black Bears were coming off Saturday’s 3-2 victory over fourth-ranked St. Lawrence at Canton, N.Y.

In Sunday’s game, Dawn Froats made 28 saves to backstop the Umainen victory.

Aarts scored one goal, assisted by Karen Droog, and set up Droog’s first-period tally.

Jenel Bode scored for 1-15-1 Cornell while Sanya Sandahl stopped nine of the 11 shots she faced.

On Saturday, Christine Lane scored 6:09 into the third period, assisted by Jarin Sjogren, to give UMaine the winning margin.

Sjogren added a goal of her own in the second period with an assist from Lauren Steblen and Andrea Keller scored on a Droog assist. Amanda Cronin made 34 saves on 36 shots for the Bears.

Amanda Sargent and Caroline Trudeau scored for St. Lawrence. Caryn Ungewitter stopped 10 of the 13 shots she faced for the 17-6-3 Saints.

At Presque Isle Saturday, Tom Nadeau led the way with 18 points as the Beavers prevailed.

Matthew Thomson popped in 13 for UM-Farmington.

Mark Knowles poured in 22 points for the Clippers.
