Wilcox leads UMF past UMM in league playoff

FARMINGTON – Mike Wilcox poured in a team-high 18 points as the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers held off the University of Maine-Machias 78-66 in a Maine Athletic Conference quarterfinal game Tuesday night.

Jeremy Deeds had 15 points, Mike Fullerton 14, and Tom Nadeau 13 for the Beavers.

Albert Whittaker netted 19 points to lead UM-Machias. Mark Knowles scored 14 and Miguel Khan added 10 for the Clippers.

Notre Dame 81, Miami 43

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Ruth Riley scored 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting and Notre Dame dominated inside as the second-ranked Irish rebounded from their first loss with an 81-43 victory over Miami on Tuesday night.

The victory was the 400th career win for Irish coach Muffet McGraw and her 312th at Notre Dame.

The Irish, who fell to No. 2 after losing 54-53 to Rutgers on Saturday, had its most impressive performance since before it became the top-ranked team a month ago. Notre Dame (24-1, 13-1 Big East) has won by an average of 21.1 points this season, but had won by more than 20 points just twice in its last seven games.

The 38-point margin of victory was Notre Dame’s largest since a 40-point victory over Rice on Dec. 31. It was Miami’s worst loss this season.
