WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe is asking individuals interested in being considered for several key federal appointments to submit their resumes and other information to her office by the close of business on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

As Maine’s senior senator, Snowe has convened two advisory panels to review the qualifications of candidates for several key appointments in the Bush administration. A panel on judicial and legal nominations will make recommendations to Snowe for the Maine positions of U.S. attorney and U.S. marshal.

A separate panel on agriculture and small business will make recommendations to Snowe for state director of the Rural Development Administration and state director of the Farm Service Agency, as well as recommend a candidate whose name Snowe will forward to the Bush administration to be considered for the Boston-based position of New England Regional Administrator of the Small Business Administration.

“My advisory committees will review the resumes and supporting information from candidates for these important federal positions. I look forward to receiving the results of their review, and forwarding my recommendations to President Bush,” Snowe said.

“I have already heard from a number of candidates for each of these positions. Other Mainers interested in serving in one of these positions should submit their resumes to me by Feb. 27.”

Potential applicants may direct any questions to Cheryl Leeman, Snowe’s special projects director, at 874-0883. Resumes, background information and letters of reference must be mailed by the close of business Monday, Feb. 27, to U.S. Sen. Olympia J. Snowe, Three Canal Plaza, Suite 601, Portland, Maine 04101.
