AMHERST, Mass. – Lora Trenkle pumped in 22 points and had five assists to lead the Bowdoin College Polar Bears to a 73-61 NESCAC semifinal win over Colby Friday.

Bowdoin will play Amherst in the championship game Saturday.

Kristi Royer added 19 points and Jessie Mayol had 16 for Bowdoin.

Mandy Cochrane led the Mules with 18 points and Biana Belcher scored 10.

At Willimantic, Conn., Kara Crockett tallied 19 points and nine blocks to pace the Huskies in a Little East Conference semifinal game.

Southern Maine will play Western Connecticut for the conference championship Saturday.

Meg Cressler netted 16 points for Southern Maine. Erin Shaw had 14 points, Amanda Kimball scored 12 and Niki Dominiczak added 11. Jessica Libby had 10 rebounds and 11 assists.

Jenn Pelletier and Courtney Albert each scored 14 for the Panthers.

At Fayetteville, Ark., Rachel Talley allowed two hits in five innings and combined with Heather Schlichtman on a shutout as Arkansas defeated Maine in the Black Bears season opener Friday afternoon.

Lauren Hendrix belted a solo home run in the fourth and the Razorbacks scored once again in the sixth. Both runs were unearned.

Maine’s only hits came on single by Sara Asadoorian and Erica Sobel. Ashley Yuhas pitched a three-hitter for a tough-luck loss.

At Hartford, Conn., four players hit in double-figure scoring to help Amherst beat Colby in the NESCAC semifinal.

Sam Clark poured in 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Colby of Waterville.
