THOMASTON – A two-car crash Saturday injured six people, including an infant who was in critical condition Sunday at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

The 1-month-old boy, Keegan Colby of Warren, was in the intensive-care unit, a Maine Medical Center spokeswoman said Sunday.

Three other children were also in the 1989 Mercury sedan driven by their mother, Misty Gardner, when she lost control of the vehicle on Route 131, police Sgt. Kevin Haj said Sunday.

He said the road was covered with slush and ice at the time of the crash. Gardner and her four children were taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport. Gardner, 24, of Warren, Dustin Lavoie, 8, Shaylyn Lavoie, 6, and Cadden Lavoie, 3, all were treated and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman. The baby was transferred to the Portland hospital.

Haj said all of the children were properly restrained, including Keegan who was in an infant seat secured to the front passenger’s seat.

When Gardner was headed north on Route 131, also known as Oyster River Road, her vehicle spun out of control and struck an oncoming car driven by Sarah Lufkin, 19, of Warren. Lufkin also was treated at the Rockport hospital and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Lufkin’s 1999 Dodge sedan and Gardner’s car were demolished.

The accident occurred about 4 p.m. just north of Studley Lane and blocked traffic for about 30 minutes while rescue personnel from Thomaston, Camden and Rockland moved the injured passengers, according to Haj. He did not anticipate any charges arising from the accident.
