AUGUSTA – Robert Pilsbury poured in a game-high 25 points Sunday afternoon to lead top-seeded Husson College of Bangor to an 88-49 victory over the University of Maine-Farmington in a Maine Athletic Conference men’s basketball semifinal at the Augusta Civic Center.

Anthony Russo had 15 for Husson and Central High graduate Ryan Rivera added 12, including 8 of 9 from the foul line. Quinson Lancaster put in 11.

Matthew Thompson led the Beavers with 13.

Central Maine Tech wins title

At South Portland, tourney MVP Craig Dickson turned in a triple-double to lead Central Maine Tech past Northern Maine Tech for the Maine Small College Conference title Sunday.

Dickson scored 20 points, grabbed 25 rebounds and notched 10 assists.

Southern Maine Tech beat Eastern Maine Tech in the consolation game 91-71. On Saturday, CMTC advanced by beating EMTC 84-62.

Nick Wiberg paced EMTC in the consolation game with 23 points and Brad Galley sparked the Golden Eagles Saturday with 23 points.

Vose, Gelinas top All-MAC teams

Stacey Gelinas and C.J. Vose, both of St. Joseph’s College in Standish, have been selected as the Players of the Year in the Maine Athletic Conference.

Leroy Gore of St. Joseph’s and Betsy Elmer of UMaine-Machias were named the Rookies of the Year, while Derek Johnson of the University of Maine-Fort Kent and Tobin Slavin of UMM were tabbed as Coaches of the Year in the men’s and women’s ranks, respectively.

The winners were announced Saturday during the MAC awards night held in Augusta, site of the conference semifinals and finals.

The men’s All-MAC first team also features Robert Pilsbury of Husson College in Bangor, Scott Raymond of Thomas College in Waterville, UMaine-Presque Isle’s Antrone Moore and Shaun Tomblin of UM-Fort Kent.

The second team members are Matt Breen and Randy Fletcher of Husson, UM-Farmington’s Mike Fullerton and Tom Nadeau, and Gore.

Joining Gelinas on the All-MAC women’s first team are Liza Doughty of Husson, Erin Lovely of Thomas, Becky Roak of UM-Farmington and Sue Picard of St. Joseph’s.

The second team is made up of Husson’s Leslie Trott, Angela Robb and Gill Guest of UM-Machias, Heather Farrell of Thomas, and Carolyn Brown of St. Joseph’s.

Vose, a sophomore forward from Yarmouth, led the Monks with 19.5 points per game and averaged 8.1 rebounds. Gelinas, a junior guard from Biddeford, averaged 14.1 points and 5.2 assists.

At the Augusta Civic Center, Katie Nye of Corinna scored 17 points and handed out five assists Sunday, lifting second-seeded Husson College of Bangor to a Maine Athletic Conference semifinal victory over the Beavers.

The Braves battled archrival and No. 1 seed St. Joseph’s of Standish in tonight’s 7:30 title contest.

Kelly Dow of Sebec Village tossed in 17 points and made four steals for the Braves, while Leslie Trott of Brewer provided eight points, 12 rebounds and three steals.

For UM-Farmington, which outscored Husson 19-8 from the foul line, Rachel Bard led the way with 10 ponts and five steals and Jocelyn Sawyer added 10 points.

Husson outrebounded UMF 41-29.

At New Haven, Conn., Megan Aarts had two goals plus an assist Sunday to lead the University of Maine to a 5-1 victory over Yale.

The Black Bears dropped a 3-1 decision Saturday at Princeton.

Karen Droog had two assists for 14-13-1 UMaine in Sunday’s victory. Cindy Biron, Karen Droog and Nicole Munro added a goal apiece. Dawn Froats made 25 saves on 26 shots.

Gabrielle Goodfellow scored the lone goal, unassisted, for Yale. Nicolette Franck stopped 20 of 25 shots.

At Princeton, N.J., Abbey Fox and Gretchen Anderson each scored a goal and had an assist Saturday to pace Princeton.
