MARSHFIELD – Selectmen will conduct a special town meeting at 7 tonight at the Town Hall.

Townspeople will be asked to authorize selectmen to take $5,551 from surplus to cover the cost of the town’s solid waste disposal contract with Bay Area Transfer Station.

The station is operated by the town of Machias, which agreed to a short-term contract with Sawyer Environmental Services in August 1999 to provide continuing coverage while Machias was bidding and negotiating a new contract.

Each of the four member towns is being asked to pay its share of the gap contract, which ran from August 1999 to April 2000. Marshfield’s share is $15,736.

Marshfield First Selectman Donna Dzierzynski said there is $10,185 in carry-over funds in the town’s solid waste disposal budget, but that the town needs to take the additional money from surplus.
