McLellan leads No.5 Warriors past Cony boys John Bapst next for Nokomis

NEWPORT – Ryan McLellan scored 33 points to lead the No. 5 Nokomis Warriors to a 62-55 Class A prelim victory over the No. 13 Cony Rams Tuesday night in boys basketball action.

Nokomis advanced to 4:40 p.m. Friday quarterfinal at the Bangor Auditorium against No. 4 John Bapst of Bangor.

Luke Hayden scored 14 points and blocked three shots for the winners.

Jared Cushman led No. 13 Cony of Augusta with 12 points while Scott Hinds added 10. Ryan Beer scored eight points and had 10 rebounds.

At Fairfield, Trafton Teague led Lawrence, scoring 36 points for the No. 7 Bulldogs.

Lawrence advanced to an 8:40 p.m. Saturday quarterfinal against No. 2 Skowhegan at the Bangor Auditorium.

Mark Bradford scored 12 points while Nick Freese added 10 for the winners. Todd MacArthur scored two points and had 13 assists.

Shawn Kenniston netted 26 for No. 15 Old Town while Jason Robbins chipped in with 11.

At Presque Isle, the Wildcats jumped out to an 18-4 lead after one period and rolled to the win over the two-time defending state champs.

Presque Isle advanced to a 9:40 a.m. Saturday quarterfinal at the Bangor Auditorium against Cony of Augusta.

Autumn Tuttle led a balanced attack with 10 points for No. 8 Presque Isle. Melissa Blackstone added eight while Miranda Condon grabbed eight rebounds.

Rachel Yates scored 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the No. 9 Cougars. Amber Alexander scored eight.

The Bulldogs will face No. 2 Nokomis in an Eastern Maine quarterfinal at 7:10 p.m. Saturday.

Kasey Spencer tallied 10 for the No. 10 Indians. Mallory Brown added nine.
