Nokomis, Bangor champs

BANGOR – The Nokomis girls rallied from deficits all night long and topped Bangor in two overtimes, and the Bangor boys dominated John Bapst from start to finish in the Big East championship games Tuesday night at the Bangor Auditorium.

Nokomis prevailed 60-55 in the girls game while Bangor rolled to a 54-29 win in the boys contest.

In the the girls game, the Warriors of Newport trailed by 11 at the half, and overcame a five-point deficit over the final minute of the first overtime period en route to the win.

Danielle Clark went 15-for-19 from the free throw line and scored 29 points for Nokomis. Laura Pelkey added 11 and Lindsey Welch had 10. The Warriors fueled their comebacks by connecting on 20 of 25 free throws after shooting just 0-for-1 in the first half.

Terra Curtis scored 19 and Alison Smith netted 17 for Bangor, which made just nine of 17 free throws over the final quarter and in the overtime periods. Jlynn Frazier tallied 12.

In the boys game, the Rams held John Bapst to just one field goal in the second half – and seven in the game – while posting a lopsided win.

Joe Campbell scored 15 points to pace the Rams while Jim Shea added 11.

Wesley Day netted 16 for the Crusaders.
