CARIBOU – Joel Griffeth scored 14 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter and two overtime periods, and James Sam tossed in six of his team-high 26 points in the two overtimes as the No. 6 Caribou boys basketball team held off the No. 11 Presque Isle in double overtime for a 74-72 victory in Eastern Maine Class A prelim action Wednesday.

The Vikings will face No. 3 Mt. Blue of Farmington in a quarterfinal Saturday at 3:40 p.m. at the Bangor Auditorium.

Tyler Giles chipped in with 10 points and Tristan Noyes hit two free throws in the closing seconds of regulation to send it into overtime. Sam added 17 rebounds.

Nick Casavant poured in 29 points for Presque Isle. Denis Saucier added 13 and Matt Fortin scored 10.

At Sukee Arena in Winslow, Jason Carter scored an open-net goal at the 14:10 mark of the third period to lift the No. 4 Black Raiders over the No. 5 Wildcats in an Eastern Maine Class B quarterfinal.

Gardiner 8, Houlton-Hodgdon 0

At Kennebec Ice Arena in Augusta, Andy Nagy scored three goals and assisted on another to lead the No. 2 Tigers to a quarterfinal shutout over the No. 10 Black Hawks.

For the 17-1-3 Tigers, Kevin McKay scored twice while Ben Brown, Justin Lebourdais, and Ryan Jean each scored one goal. Ray Jean saved all 10 shots he faced for the shutout.
