I found Joni Averill’s column in the Feb. 16 edition very interesting. It urged women to watch their purses while shopping in the Greater Bangor area, as the thefts of purses are up, especially in areas where carts are being used.
When I go shopping and need a cart, I take the cart that has the strap to hold a child in the seat, I put that strap through the strap on my purse and snap it in place. This is not to say someone could not unsnap it and take the purse, but it would certainly take a few extra moments for the thief to unsnap it. In those extra moments the woman would become aware of someone near her cart and hopefully prevent the loss of her purse.
I hope more women will try to do this and that store owners can get word to the makers of shopping carts to put this strap in all of the carts and not just a certain number of them.
