Police seek suspect in Bangor robbery

Bangor police Sunday night were searching for a man who robbed an Ohio Street convenience store at gunpoint.

The man entered Cameron’s Market at 313 Ohio St., shortly before 6 p.m., according to Bangor police Sgt. Ronald Gastia.

The man displayed a handgun and ordered the clerk to lie on the floor.

After emptying the cash register of an undisclosed amount of cash, the man fled on foot, reportedly headed in the direction of downtown.

The man was described as having a dark complexion and was believed to be in his early 20s. He is at least 6 feet 2 inches tall with a thin build.

He last was seen wearing bluejeans, a maroon sweater and a dark knit cap.

Police were using a dog in the search. They asked that anyone having information about the robbery or the possible identity of the suspect contact Bangor police at 947-7384.

Old Town police arrested Michael Deveau, 44, of Bangor at 9:19 p.m. Saturday on South Main Street after he was seen driving erratically. Deveau was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants after failing a field sobriety test, according to officers.

His blood alcohol level was 0.24, or three times the legal limit, police said Sunday.

Michael Hunt, 24, of Bangor was charged with domestic assault Sunday morning after a 22-year-old woman summoned police to their Hammond Street apartment.

The woman told police that the couple started fighting after their young son dropped and broke a plate on the kitchen floor. She told officers that when Hunt threatened to kill her, she pushed him away.

She told Bangor police Officer Paul Colley that Hunt grabbed her by the hair, pulled her onto the floor, hit her in the head with his fists, then wrapped an arm around her neck. According to the police report, she bit him and Hunt punched her in the ribs.

As a condition of his bail, Hunt may not have contact with the woman or their son. He is scheduled to appear in 3rd District Court in April.
