President Bush’s response to the shooting at Santana High School in California was to call the event “a disgraceful act of cowardice.” To label as cowards those who kill with guns is a common reaction and it may even be true.
The thing about guns, as opposed to weapons such as knives, is that you need not be in close proximity to your victim. However, those who are so in thrall to the gun lobby that they do nothing to stop the proliferation of firearms in this country are equally cowardly and equally dangerous to society.
