Orioles rough up Bangor native Kinney

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Mike Kinkade homered twice and the Baltimore Orioles had 18 hits Thursday during a 12-5 victory over the Minnesota Twins.

Kinkade hit three-run homer in the first inning off loser Matt Kinney and a two-run homer in the eighth off Bob Wells. Brian Roberts also hit a three-run homer in the third against Eddie Guardado.

Brian Buchanan hit a solo homer in the sixth off Josh Towers. David Ortiz and Bobby Kielty both went 3-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored.

Kinney, who led Bangor High School to the state championship in 1995, gave up five runs, five hits, three walks and two wild pitches in 1? innings.

Winner Jose Mercedes gave up four runs and six hits in five innings.

Notes: Twins 3B Corey Koskie agreed to a three-year contract worth about $6 million. … Eight more players were cut by the Twins. RHP Danny Mota was optioned to Triple-A Edmonton of the Pacific Coast League, RHP Kyle Lohse and LHP Brad Thomas were optioned to Double-A New Britain of the Eastern League, and RHP Adam Johnson, INF Michael Cuddyer, INF Michael Moriarty, C Brandon Marsters and OF Michael Restovich were reassigned to the minor league complex.
