ELLSWORTH – Hancock and Washington county residents with a strong interest in receiving classical voice training to sing opera, operettas and art songs are encouraged to apply to the Maine Community Foundation’s Lee Patterson Scholarship Fund for Classical Voice Training for financial assistance. May 1 is the deadline for applying to this fund.

Financial awards will be made for classical voice training with a teacher acceptable to the selection committee. Classical, in this case, is defined as opera, operettas and art songs written between 1600 and 1920.

Successful candidates, who must be at least 14 years old to apply, must agree to sing with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Hancock County – in all activities staged and concert – during the term of their scholarship. Grants will be awarded equally to male and female applicants.

To apply for this fund, please complete an application, available from the Maine Community Foundation. To receive an application, visit the foundation’s Web site at www.mainecf.org or call (877) 700-6800.
