Building and strengthening relationships between representatives from Maine’s credit unions and their local legislators will be the primary goal when nearly 75 representatives converge on Augusta for the fifth annual Maine Credit Union Day at the State House. The event, sponsored by the Maine Credit Union League, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Hall of Flags in the State House.

“With term limits, it is especially important for credit unions to educate and inform new legislators on the credit union movement and issues of importance to Maine credit unions,” said John Murphy, president of the Maine Credit Union League.

As of Dec. 31, 2000, statistics reflect that Maine credit unions have total assets of $2.6 billion and serve 62,593 members statewide.
