LEE – During Monday’s annual town meeting, residents not only approved a municipal budget proposal, but also voted to increase it.
Voters approved a total municipal budget of $268,726, a decrease of $27,174 over last year. The amount to be raised from local taxes is $122,900, a decrease of $47,000 over last year.
A total of $7,776 was added to the town’s budget, with $6,776 coming from surplus funds and $1,000 from local taxes.
Residents voted to continue paying 100 percent of town employees’ health care costs rather than 90 percent, as proposed. Voters added $1,776 to the insurance account to cover the increased costs.
Voters increased funding for renovations to the Eula Ham Municipal Building by $3,000 to correct a leaky water problem. Officials had proposed $2,000 to lower ceilings to make the building more energy efficient and to repair a handrail on the handicap access ramp.
Residents increased funding for the following: $2,000 to the waste disposal account to erect a fence around the transfer station area; and $1,000 to cover anticipated increases in heat and electricity costs for the town garage.
Voters approved spending $30,000 from surplus to replace the old building now used to store salt, calcium and equipment at the highway garage site.
Residents also approved spending $30,000 from surplus to construct a building at the transfer station to house recyclables and the new compactor truck.
During municipal elections, incumbent William Hamilton was re-elected to a three-year term on the Lee Board of Selectmen with 87 votes. Stephen Michaud received 45 votes.
Elected to three-year terms on the SAD 30 school board are incumbent Stephen Mallett with 115 votes and Patricia Houghton with 110 votes. Charles Lowell was elected to a two-year term on the school board with 106 votes.
Roger Ek was elected to a three-year term on the Hospital Administrative 1 board of directors with 26 write-in votes.
