CASTINE – The University of Maine-Farmington opened its season Wednesday with a doubleheader sweep of Maine Maritime Academy.

The Beavers beat the Mariners 14-0 in the opener and 16-3 in the nightcap.

In the first game, Becky Roak led the Beavers with a double and two singles.

Andrea Benvenoti hit a double and a single while Molly Leopin and Heather Marden each had two singles. Marden pitched a five-hitter.

For Maine Maritime, Caitlin Carr had a single and a double.

In the second game, Kristyn Graham nailed a three-run triple for UM-Farmington.

Benvenoti, Marden, and Becky Roak had two singles apiece.

Carr doubled for Maine Maritime.
