WHITNEYVILLE – A homeowner on Route 1 A was treated for smoke inhalation Tuesday night after a fire damaged her garage and a vehicle, according to Machias Fire Chief John Hennessey.
Hennessey said Gail Frutchey was taken by ambulance to Down East Community Hospital.
Frutchey used a fire extinguisher, and the blaze was pretty well out by the time firefighters arrived in response to the 6:37 p.m. report, the chief said.
Hennessey said an 18-year-old friend of the family was smoking in the garage and threw his cigarette into an oilcan that apparently contained gasoline.
