COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Annmarie Browne stroked an RBI single with one out in the eighth inning Friday, lifting Maryland to a 1-0 softball victory over the University of Maine.
Black Bears pitcher Candace Jaegge allowed only one hit through seven innings, before Monica Cyphert led off the eighth with a double to right-center. She advanced on a sacrifice and scored on the Browne hit.
Jaegge (3-6) struck out six and walked three. Sara Asadoorian, Niki Taylor and Erica Sobel singled for the Bears.
Jenn Shellhammer and Amanda Bettker combined on a four-hitter for Maryland.
