NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware swept the University of Maine in a Saturday softball doubleheader, but the Bears rallied to split Sunday’s twinbill.
Delaware won 4-2 and 4-0 on Saturday, and earned a 2-1 win in eight innings on Sunday. Maine grabbed an 8-0 victory in Sunday’s nightcap.
In Sunday’s first game, Lauren Mark doubled in a run to end the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. Susan Dugan struck out nine for the Blue Hens while Carolyn Wasilewski had two singles.
Nicole Taylor and Leigh Ann Hlywak eaach belted triples for the Black Bears.
In Sunday’s second game, Erica Sobel’s double and triple with two RBIs led Maine.
Katherine Churchill doubled with one RBI for the Black Bears and Lauren Dulkis added two singles.
Mark and Melissa Basilio each stroked two singles to pace Delaware.
In Saturday’s first game, Liz Winslow singled three times for Delaware.
Susan Dugan struck out eight for Delaware as Mandy Welch and Melissa Basilio each doubled with an RBI.
Melissa Mather and Sara Asadoorian each notched two hits with an RBI apiece to lead the Black Bears.
In Saturday’s second game, Amanda Cariello pitched a four-hitter and had two singles and an RBI.
Mandy Welch, Laura Streets, and Laurie Erickson each tallied a hit for Delaware.
Sara Asadoorian doubled for the Black Bears while Erica Sobel and Katherine Churchill singled.

Mount Ida sweeps MMA
At Castine Sunday, Mount Ida’s Melissa Solemina struck out 13 batters to defeat Maine Maritime Academy 11-7 in the first game of a doubleheader. Mount Ida won the second game 24-21.
Alaina Hanlon paced MMA in the first game with a double, triple and two RBIs.
Hanlon added three hits in the second game while Vicki Jones and Maygan Hardison chipped in with two hits each. Jessica Clifford added a double while Caitlin Carr and Tracy Forand both tripled.

Bowdoin sweeps UMF
At Cambridge, Mass., Kevin Bougie tied the first game of a doubleheader with his first collegiate homer in the sixth inning, then drove in the game-winning run with a seventh-inning single for Bowdoin on Sunday.
Bowdoin won the first game 3-2 and the second 8-4.
In Sunday’s first game, Bougie plated Rob Metzler with his single, and Travis Dube improved to 3-1 in relief of Jared Porter.
In the second game, Bowdoin scored five runs in the first three innings and cruised to the win. Greg Lovely homered for the Polar Bears.

Women’s basketball
All-Star Challenge
ST. LOUIS – Tennessee’s Semeka Randall scored 17 points as the Jazz squad beat the Blues team 74-66 on Saturday in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Challenge.
The game is held annually on the Saturday during the NCAA Women’s Final Four.
The game features the nation’s top college seniors, 17 from Division I and the Player of the Year in Division II, Division III and the NAIA.
A total of eight players from the Final Four teams were selected for the game but did not play.
Janell Burse of Tulane had 14 points and eight rebounds for the Jazz, and Georgia’s Kelly Miller added 11 points.
Host Washington University’s Tasha Rodgers, who was the crowd favorite, scored 10 points, including the first two of the game.
North Carolina’s LaQuanda Barksdale had 12 points for the Blues.
