AUSTIN, Texas – An adjustment from yards to meters didn’t prevent Portland swimmer Ian Crocker from winning the 100-meter butterfly in 52.46 seconds at the USA Swimming National Championships Sunday.

Crocker, who won an Olympic gold medal last fall as a member of the 400 medley relay team, will represent the U.S. in the 100 butterfly in the FINA World Championships this summer in Japan.

“I had to make some adjustments this week because I haven’t swam in a long course pool in a long time,” Crocker said. “It’s been a long month of swimming and I think I’ve done well.”

Crocker, a Cheverus High School of Portland graduate, is a freshman at Texas where he helped the Longhorns set an NCAA record last week in the 400 medley relay with a swim of 3:05.37.

At the national championships, Erik Vendt of Southern California won his second event, taking the 1,500-meter freestyle in 15 minutes.

Diana Munz, Jamie Reid and Tammie Stone won events in the final day of competition. Munz of Lake Erie won the 800 freestyle (8:32.20), Reid of Puyallup Aquatics won the 200 backstroke (2:13.34) and Stone of Texas Aquatics won the 50 freestyle (25.11).

Southern California won the women’s team title with 187 points. Auburn won the men’s team title with 357 points.
