MACHIAS – Interrelationships among education, empowerment and economics will be the topic of a breakfast meeting of the Machias Bay Area Chamber of Commerce on Friday.
Longtime teacher Alan Furth of Trescott, the co-founder of Traditional Arts in Education, is the guest speaker for the session at the Blue Bird Ranch Family Restaurant. It will be at 8 a.m. Friday, April 6.
Furth will lead participants in a discussion of how education empowers individuals who, in turn, enhance their communities and create a positive economic climate.
An educator for 23 years, Furth has taught high school, college and graduate students in both public and alternative school settings.
He is an educational consultant specializing in fostering education through the arts and is involved in a grass-roots effort to establish the Cobscook Community Learning Center, a regional arts and learning center borrowing from the Danish Folk School.
The public is welcome and a $7 registration fee, which covers a buffet breakfast, is payable at the door.
