Extension workshops on fruit growing

BANGOR – The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will hold daylong workshops on growing fruits in gardens or yards. Strawberries, high-bush blueberries, raspberries and apples will be discussed from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the following dates and locations:

April 23, Oxford County Extension Office, South Paris.

April 25, Franklin County, Farmington.

April 26, Penobscot County Extension Office, Bangor.

April 27, Piscataquis County Extension Office, Dover-Foxcroft.

April 30, Somerset County Extension Office, Skowhegan.

May 1, Waldo County Extension Office, Belfast.

May 2, Knox-Lincoln County, Waldoboro.

Topics include choosing sites, preparing soil, choosing fruit varieties, establishing and maintaining the fruit planting and managing pests. Workshops cost $5 per person, and advance registration is required by calling the Penobscot County Extension Office at 942-7396 or 800-287-1485.
