BRUNSWICK – Bowdoin College will honor 12 Maine teachers with Distinguished Teaching Awards on Thursday, April 12, at a series of events including a reception and awards dinner with Bowdoin President Robert H. Edwards and Maine Commissioner of Education J. Duke Albanese.

The award was created in 1999 to pay tribute to high school teachers who instill in students a passion for learning. The teachers include:

Robert Brown, biology, Belfast Area High School.

William Disselkamp, Spanish, Stearns High School, Millinocket.

William LoPotro, biology, Brewer High School.

Jean Lawrence, English, Maine Coast School of Technology, Rockland, and formerly of Medomak Valley High School.

William Murphy, English, Belfast Area High School.

Michael Waters, chemistry, Messalonskee High School, Oakland.
