Former University of Maine defenseman Eric Weinrich has been named to the U.S. men’s hockey team that will compete in Ice Hockey Federation World Championship April 28 through May 13 in Germany.

Weinrich, who currently plays with the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins was one of 16 players named to the team. The players come primarily from NHL teams that did not qualify for the league’s playoffs and also includes college players. Seven more players will be named to the team.

Weinrich was traded to Boston by Montreal in February for defenseman Patrick Traverse. Weinrich scored seven goals and recorded 24 assists in the 2000-2001 season between the two teams.
