CASTINE – Maine Maritime Academy rallied to a 4-3 win in the first game of a softball doubleheader on Thursday while the UMaine-Augusta earned a split – and its first win of the year – with a 17-3 win in the second game at Ritchie Field.

In the opener, the Mariners rallied from 3-2 down with the tying and winning runs in the sixth. Jessica Clifford had the game-tying RBI single. She advanced to second and third on a pair of wild pitches. Vicki Jones drove in the game-winner with an RBI put-out.

Alice Bishop struck out 12 and walked one for UM-Augusta.

In the second game, the Moose took advantage of 10 walks and seven MMA errors to run away with the win. They were up 14-2 after just two innings.

Bishop went the distance for UMA, striking out 12 and walking just one. She had a pair of singles. Stacy Zimmerman notched a triple, while Jamie Lamorbao had a single and a double. Stacey Ryan provided the Mariners with a two-run homer.

Women’s lacrosse

Bowdoin 9, Bates 7

At Lewiston, Libby Bourke scored three goals to lead the Bowdoin College Polar Bears of Brunswick to the win over Bates.

Kristi Perrine scored twice while Amanda Burrage, Kate Calise, Samantha Hall, and Lindsay Powers each scored once for the 5-2 Polar Bears. Julia McCombs made five saves on 12 shots.

Liz Lawler and Catherine Crosby each scored twice for 9-3 Bates. Lori Jessup, Staci Bafford and Becky Castle each had a goal. Liz Coulson saved nine of 18 shots.
