ROCKLAND – Two women were injured in a three-vehicle crash Friday on Maverick Street, which caused more than $10,000 damage.
Tina Birmingham, 35, and Rebekah Henderson-Ward, 26, both of Rockland, were taken by city ambulance to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport,
Rockland Police Sgt. Jeff McLaughlin said Friday. Henderson-Ward was pregnant, according to the sergeant.
Henderson-Ward was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said Friday. Birmingham was still at the hospital late that afternoon for observation and was expected to remain there for at least a few more hours, the spokeswoman said.
A third driver involved in the accident, Joe Gerrish, 30, of Waldoboro, was not injured, McLaughlin said.
Birmingham was driving west on Maverick Street at about 11:40 a.m. in a 1985 Honda sedan, preparing to make a left turn onto Brewster Street, when the accident happened. An unidentified driver, headed east in a truck, stopped to let her turn.
Gerrish, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck, passed the stopped truck on the right shoulder and hit the passenger side of Birmingham’s car.
Gerrish’s truck pushed Birmingham’s car across two lanes of traffic into Henderson-Ward’s 1992 Oldsmobile sedan.
Birmingham’s vehicle ended up in the parking lot at Movie Gallery, located behind McDonald’s restaurant, he said.
The accident caused $5,000 damage each to Gerrish’s and Birmingham’s vehicles. Henderson-Ward’s car had $150 damage in the accident, which is still being investigated by Officer Jim Jillson.
