More on other teams

Once again a baseball season is among us. As I read the sports pages, there is very little about the best team in baseball, the three-time defending champion New York Yankees! We are not all fans of New England sports and would like to read about other teams’ happenings and goings-on.

I just returned from vacation in North Carolina. Their pages cover every major sports team and regional college and high school teams, even if it’s just a paragraph.

Maybe you should take a poll and see if there are more readers who agree with me. I think you’ll be surprised with the results.

Preserve Indian names

I have been following the Indian issues regarding the names of schools, teams, towns, and all others names that may be at issue here. Why is it that a certain few think the people and organizations that named their teams or towns want to disgrace themselves with an Indian name or word?

I am not an Indian, but I’m standing up for the Indians in that I am proud to be an American and that the Indians of America are a proud part of the American heritage. Discrimination happened then and continues to happen now. We all need to get over it and move on. I can’t imagine why any organization would name their school, team, or town after the Indians if they thought the name or word was disgraceful. It would seem to me that an Indian name would be doing an honor to the Indians. All of what happened in the past is just that, the past.

Let’s continue to honor our American heritage and leave the Indian names as they are, as a tribute to them and what they stood for. America would not be what it is today without the proud tradition of the Indians and their cultures.
